HPREP (Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program) is a volunteer program with the goal of increasing middle and high school students’ interest in, and exposure to, science and health career fields. Our volunteers consist of students from Washington University’s undergraduate, graduate, medical, physical therapy, and occupational therapy schools.
HPREP volunteers visit local middle and high schools to teach students about basic heart or lung anatomy, physiology, and health. Our program is highly interactive and hands-on, and our teaching materials include interactive models, medical equipment, and preserved human tissues on loan from our anatomy department. We also host an annual field trip where students have the opportunity to visit the WUMS campus and participate in suture workshops, tour the standardized patient suites and anatomy lab, and learn how to use a microscope.
