One Health is the idea that the health of humans, animals, and their environment are inextricably linked and ought to be managed as such. One Health at WUSM partners with the Saint Louis Zoo and the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine to provide medical students with opportunities to explore the many overlaps between human medicine and veterinary medicine. Growing partnerships with the Department of Evolution, Ecology & Population Biology and the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering at Washington University accentuate the human health-environmental health interface. Popular events include a tour of the STL Zoo’s veterinary hospital, the public outreach at the annual One Health Fair, and talks by healthcare professionals working under the One Health umbrella.
