Outside of the formally assigned Gateway Coaching Program, students have access to a number of mentoring opportunities.

EXPLORE Program

The EXPLORE program in the Gateway Curriculum is a formalized approach to career development that helps WashU MD students find their niche in academic medicine. It allows students to explore and define their individual career interests and aspirations, then to pursue those interests and gain exposure to academic careers.

M1:M4 — First-Year Mentors

Fourth-year students serve as mentors to first-year students (1:2) throughout the Clinical Skills curriculum.

M1:M2 — Big Sib Program

Every incoming student is matched with a second-year student with similar interests. Sibs share advice, class notes, and occasional treats!
