Educational Technology

Educational technology in the MD Program is supported by the Office of Medical Student Education’s Educational Technology and Innovation Unit (ETIU) alongside our key partners in Washington University Information Technology (WashU IT). Supported teaching and learning tools, systems, and processes include Canvas, Keystone, and Student Laptop Guidelines.

Visit ETIU’s page to learn more about our team, or contact us at OMSEedtech@wustl.edu for support.

Student Laptop Guidelines

ETIU recommends the following hardware and software to successfully use teaching and learning systems within the MD Program.

Eligibility for financial aid
Students eligible for federal aid may request a one-time increase (at any point during their degree) to their cost of attendance to add educational laptop expenses into their federal loans. Contact the Office of Student Financial Planning prior to purchase to discuss eligibility.
Requirement for personal device use
Starting with the entering class of 2020, students are required to own and use a personal cellphone and personal laptop (per Student Laptop Guidelines) throughout the duration of the MD Program. It is each student’s responsibility to ensure his/her personal devices function properly and are able to connect to the WUSM-Secure wireless network, including coordinating and funding any necessary personal device repair via cellphone/laptop vendors or manufacturers.
