American Medical Association
The WUSM student chapter of the American Medical Association (AMA) serves as a patient and medical student advocate, supports volunteer work in the St. Louis community and sponsors educational events to foster creative discussion among medical students.
Clinical Research Journal Club
The Clinical Research Journal Club (CRJC) is a regularly-meeting group to discuss the latest and greatest in clinical research, for students to learn about the frontiers of medicine and to hone their skills in analyzing clinical research.
Global Health & Medicine
Global Health & Medicine (GH&M) is WUSM’s global health related student group. GH&M exposes medical students to a career in global health through its annual symposium, close interactions with global health faculty, and seminar opportunities. More information on this group can be found here.

Medical Ethics Student Society
The purpose of the Medical Ethics Student Society (MESS) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is to foster interest in and provide WashU medical students opportunities to explore bioethics, clinical ethics, research ethics, and more. This group aims to help students learn how ethical thinking is integrated in a medical career, connect with faculty performing ethics/philosophical research, provide networking opportunities, and more. MESS sponsors several activities, including invitations to grand rounds, ethics journal clubs, speakers, and more.
Medical Innovation & Technology
Medical Innovation & Technology (MIT) is a student-led organization focused on how emerging technologies and innovative thinking can improve patient care and the healthcare system. Our mission is to support students interested in artificial intelligence, digital health, medical devices, data science, entrepreneurship, and health systems as they tackle real challenges in healthcare.
MIT connects students with research opportunities, mentors, and resources to support the development of future clinicians, founders, and leaders. Members gain practical experience through case discussions, lectures, workshops, and project-based opportunities, with guidance from founders and experts in the St. Louis innovation ecosystem.
Medical Students for Choice
Medical Students For Choice is an organization that aims to educate WUSM students about contraception and abortion, as well as encourage them to explore their personal beliefs about the full range of reproductive rights.
Medical Students for Understanding and Destigmatizing Substance Use Disorders (MedSUD)
The mission of MedSUD is to empower and equip physicians-in-training to recognize and treat substance use disorders and their sequelae both in their patients and in their colleagues, to get stigma out of the way of better understanding and treatment of substance use disorders, and to advocate for better policies around SUD.
MedSpan
MedSpan is a student group dedicated to improving medical Spanish fluency in healthcare providers through a series of educational sessions. Completing the series of sessions will prepare students to take the Clinician Cultural and Linguistic Assessment (CCLA), which provides certification to speak with Spanish-speaking patients and families without the use of an interpreter. We welcome all students.
