Student Oath

Written by the Entering Class of 2026

As we enter the profession of medicine,
we embrace the duties and privileges entrusted to us,
now and always.

To my patients:

I pledge to be your advocate, empowering you to make choices that reflect your values and beliefs, while providing the highest quality care.

I promise to earn and honor your trust by keeping your confidences sacred and acknowledging the privilege to learn from you.

I commit to valuing your humanity and the complexities of your story, recognizing that clinical knowledge can never substitute for your lived experience.

To my profession:

I pledge respect and gratitude to my teachers and mentors while dedicating myself to a lifetime of learning the art and science of medicine.

I will engage critically with my profession, acting as an agent of change to promote inclusivity, a culture of care, and the betterment of medicine as a whole.

I acknowledge my place within a team and will support my colleagues with respect and humility.

To society:

I dedicate myself to the service of humanity, using this white coat neither as a weapon nor a shield.

I refuse to let my privilege become complacency, nor will I be complicit in the inequities that shape the health of those I serve.

I vow to pursue truth and advance science for the health of all.

I will use the knowledge, tools, and power entrusted to me to advocate for accessible, equitable, and sustainable care, serving the communities in St. Louis and beyond.

To myself:

I commit to recognizing my limitations, acting within my capabilities, and learning when I falter.

I will care for myself so that I may care for others and continue to find joy in healing.

I will strive to uphold moral consistency in all aspects of my life.

I will maintain a sense of wonder as I learn and grow.

I recognize that the opportunity to become a physician
was made possible not by my efforts alone, but through the sacrifices, belief, and trust of those who have supported my journey.

May I hold fast to the enthusiasm and idealism
with which I now take this oath, which serves as the foundation of my continuous growth in medicine. May I aspire to uplift the health, happiness, and humanity of those I serve.

Purpose-driven physicians

Our curriculum emphasizes mission-driven career development, world-class research and early clinical experience to help students become well-rounded, compassionate physicians.

Student orientation

Incoming students launch their medical journey during orientation, when students get to know each other, their new school and their community in St. Louis. The week culminates with the White Coat Reflection.
